The Value Of Volunteer EMS
Since 1952, thousands of Virginia Beach citizens, and hundreds from neighboring cities, have devoted their time and energy to becoming and then serving as volunteer Emergency Medical Technicians in the City. They come to this calling for many reasons; to help their fellow citizens, to gain a foothold in the healthcare field, to find a social network or to experience the adrenaline rush that comes from responding to accidents, injuries and other mishaps. Every day and on every one of the up to 12-hour weekly shifts to which they are assigned, these unselfish individuals are called upon to ease pain, reassure frightened patients and families and on occasion, to save a life.
